Star Blazers was originally produced in Japan in 1976 under the title "Uchuu Senkan Yamato," which roughly translates into "Space Battleship Yamato." It was dubbed for English speaking audiences and aired on US television as "The Quest for Iscandar" in 1979. There was a followup movie, "Farewell to Space Battleship Yamato," which was to have been the final movie, however the writers realized that there was enough of a following to demand more. So, the movie was re-written and expanded into a second series (known in the United States as "The Comet Empire.") This was followed by "Space Battleship Yamato - The New Voyage," "Be Forever Yamato," and "Final Yamato." There is a third series, "Yamato III" which was shown in the US as "The Bolar Wars," however it is not as well known and is about half as long as was originally intended to meet budget and schedules.
